Thu May 29 2003 (Johannesburg to Hartbeespoort Dam)
Packed as hoping to travel to Middleburg and then onto Loskup Dam to stay with Albert and Ange. Dropped Leila at school, then at Rob's work found that Albert and Ange aren't around this weekend.
Decided to hire car and go to Hartbeespoort Dam for a few days. Shopped around and eventually ended up at Budget again, pick up this afternoon.
Sorted out rough plan for Botswana. Up to Maun, stay in panhandle for a few days and hopefully spend a night on a Mokoro, then up to Kasane and hire car to go into Chobe national park. Hopefullycan get bus straight from Joburg to Maun.
Went to organise Botswana Pula at Absa, won't release it until I show them my travel ticket. Collected car, brand new Primera for R200/day. Drop back Monday afternoon.
Back to office to transfer pack from Rob's car. Bus company no longer exists. Will catch Intercape bus up to Gaberone then sort something out from there.
Went to Intercape depot which is not far from Centurion, booked a ticket for Tuesday's service to Gaberone (get's in at 7pm). Chatted to Botwanan bloke who had just arrived. He avised to get up v early on Weds if I want to get to Maun in one day.
Drove up to Hartbeespoort Dam, Eagle's Landing. No key! Wandered around back, straight onto water, beautiful place, palm trees. Rob got back to me, couldn't contact John. Gotback in car and drove back to Centurion, picked up key and then back to Eagle's Landing. Called in at Spar on way.
John now there. Sorted bed out, lizard. Had burgers, then chatted about changes over last 10 years. John said some people had expected disaster, but transition had taken place without any major incidents.
Up to bed and set videos uploading.
