Mon Jun 02 2003 (Hartbeespoort Dam to Johannesburg)
Got up, had a snack bar for breakfast. Washed pots, ants all over place. Put out ash and tidied place up. Passed John on way out.
Got back to Pretoria around 2pm, dropped car off andwent to collect Botswanan Pula, now OK as I have a bus ticket.
Had a pork sausage skillet and fresh guava juice, completely stuffed. Walked back up to Rob's work and had my hair number oned again. Hairdresser's sister in London, and wants to go sometime with her husband, but doesn't fancy weather. Almost left sunglasses there.
Borrowed Rob's car and went to Hiker's paradise for a tent. Cheapest is R585 more than I'd like to pay. Will try to call Botswana again tonight and make decision about tent in morning.
Back home, Rob cooked Tuna and we talked about more serious stuff - Palestinian situation; NIreland; Apartheid, the effects of colonialism and the slave trade!
Called ineternational enquires, all phone numbers in Botswana have gone from 6 to 7 digits. Managed to get in at a hotel in Gaborone for tom night. Spoke to Makwena Lodge. Slightl confused whether they can or cannot accommodate me. Seemed fairly uninterested as I am by myself. They are an hours 4WD journey from Etsha6 and the Mokoro trips ae a couple of hours' speed boat ride away. Will talk to them again from Botswana to sort something out. Have possible alternative to get from Gaborone to Maun. Instead of Eastern route via Francistown, could go West on trans-Kalahari highway to Ghanzi and then cut across desert to Maun.
Last minute laundry, set latest photos uploading.
